BLOOD:WATER MISSION'S 'RIDE:WELL' BIKE TOUR CYCLING ACROSS AMERICA: NASHVILLE CITY RIDE JULY 12TH
Blood:Water Mission's 'Ride:Well Tour' biking from Los Angeles, CA to Washington, DC to raise money and awareness for the '1000 Wells Project'
The 17 member team began their trip on June 10th traveling a southern route across the United States, finishing in Washington D.C. on the 26th of July. Cyclists are speaking at churches, schools, and other community forums along the way to raise funds and awareness for the clean water crisis in sub-Sahara Africa. Included among the riders participating in the cross-country trek are New York Times bestselling author of Blue Like Jazz, Donald Miller, and a Kenyan university student representing the communities in Africa.
Anticipating the experience Miller says, "The only thing better than riding across America is doing it for the 1000 Wells Project. When in Uganda last month, I couldn't help but notice the connection between bikes and water. Many Africans load up their bicycles with large, 5-gallon containers of water and then haul them back to their houses. I saw as many as five containers being hauled by one small boy. Riding across America to raise money for new wells will be nothing compared to the daily hardships many Africans encounter. I love that this ride will be directly connected to providing clean, and closer, water for thousands of Africans."
The cross-country team will join local cyclists in Nashville on July 12th for a city ride promoted by Team Green to provide a more accessible opportunity for Blood:Water Mission advocates to raise funds and awareness for the 1000 Wells Project based on the simple equation that "$1 provides clean water for 1 African person for 1 year." The ride will be followed by a Lightning 100 live broadcast benefit concert on Sunday July 13th at 3rd and Lindsley at 8pm with performances by Sixpence None The Richer and Matthew Perryman Jones. Registration for the Nashville ride is available online at www.ridewelltour.com <http://www.ridewelltour.com> or on site at Rocketown on Saturday July 12th from 8-9am. The ride begins at 9am from Rocketown and travels through the beautiful Shelby Bottoms Greenway to Percy Priest Dam.
The Ride:Well Tour is a joint effort between Nashville-based Blood:Water Mission and Minneapolis-based Venture Expeditions. Blood:Water Mission is a non-profit organization founded by the members of the multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning band, Jars of Clay, to address the HIV/AIDS and water crisis in Africa. The bike tour exists to promote awareness of social justice in America while generating funds for clean water projects in Africa. The tour will be accepting donations as well as registration for the city ride on their website www.ridewelltour.com <http://www.ridewelltour.com> .
